MENLO WORLDWIDE OPENS BORDER LOGISTICS FACILITY

REDWOOD CITY  - As part of its NAFTA-related expansion profile, Menlo Worldwide Forwarding has opened a new logistics facility in Nogales, Arizona that provides full transportation, logistics and warehousing capabilities to support the company's cross-border operations.

The new terminal is the company's sixth border logistics facility.
 
Menlo Worldwide Forwarding has been active for more than 30 years in Mexico and currently operates facilities and offices in Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Aguascalientes, Queretaro, Veracruz, Mazatlan, Merida, Tepic and Leon.
 
According to a company spokesman, the new facility will give Menlo the capability of increasing its level of service to Tijuana / Mesa de Otay, Mexicali, Hermosillo, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa/Matamoros, San Luis Potosi, Celaya / Guanajuato, Tlaxcala, Cuernavaca, Toluca and Puebla, as well as the 450 maquiladoras located in the state of Sonora, Mexico.
 
The services offered at the new Nogales facility include US / Mexico customs brokerage services, ocean services, crossborder transportation, intra-Mexico door-to-door pickup and delivery, inventory replenishment and fulfillment capabilities, expedited transportation into and out of Mexico, multiple carrier management and airfreight services.
 
Through the company's logistics network, the new facility - located 65 miles south of Tucson - will also offer customized trade solutions, such as origin-to-destination shipment visibility on the web for consignments routed via any forwarder or carrier, export/import compliance program management, tariff management, consulting and compliance training programs.

BRUSSELS, Belgium – 09/20/06 – Internet search engine Google has been ordered to cease reproducing articles from French-language publications in the news sections of its Belgian website; the court order threatens the company with a fine of $1.3 million daily if it does not comply.


NEW OAKLAND INTERMODAL FACILITY PLANNED

OAKLAND – 09/11/06 – The 425-acre former Oakland Army Base will be converted into the Port of Oakland’s newest intermodal rail yard under the terms of an agreement reached between the port and several local and state government agencies; the planned OHIT – or Outer Harbor Intermodal Terminal – is expected to significantly reduce container transfer times, increase throughput, and reduce truck traffic in and around the port when completed within the next several years.


INTEL MAY LAYOFF THOUSANDS

SANTA CLARA – 09/04/06 – Chipmaker Intel is reportedly planning to announce a massive layoff within weeks that could eliminate as many as 10,000 jobs or one-tenth of the company’s total global workforce; the move was spurred by several financially disappointing quarters and the results of an internal corporate analysis conducted in April.
