eBay SELECTS IRELAND AS NEW EU BUSINESS CENTER

SAN FRANCISCO - eBay has selected Dublin, Ireland as the site of its new PayPal European headquarters and its second European customer support center.

PayPal, an eBay subsidiary, is an online payment service used by buyers and sellers around the world both on eBay and off. The company has more than 31 million account members and is available to users in 38 countries around the world.

In its first facility outside the US, PayPal will establish headquarters in Dublin to support its expansion into Europe. The Dublin headquarters will reportedly host PayPal's European customer service, fraud prevention, operations, and European management team.

The company says that it expects its Dublin employee base will grow to approximately 400 employees by the end of 2005.

In addition, eBay will reportedly establish a second European customer service center at this Dublin facility in 2004 to support users in the UK, Ireland and other European countries. It expects to have between 300 and 400 employees working at the new facility within two years.

eBay also maintains an international customer service center in Dreilinden, Germany, and an international headquarters in Berne, Switzerland.

Working with the Irish Development Agency - IDA Ireland - eBay chose Dublin as the location for its business center "after an extensive evaluation process of several European cities," according to a company spokesman.

The company selected the Iriah capital "for its talented and experienced work force, particularly in the technical and financial services industry, and for its strong business and technology infrastructure." he said.
