CAL ORGANIC FARMERS GET NEW EXPORT PROGRAM
SANTA CRUZ - 02/04/04 - California-based organic farmers are getting a significant boost in becoming globally competitive with the offering of a new, innovative "e-Learning" export facilitation program.
The unique "webinar" program was developed by the Monterey Bay International Trade Association (MBITA) and was funded by a grant from the California Department of Food and Agriculture to MBITA and the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), the largest certified organic trade association in the US.
The program is aimed at introducing participants to on-line tools that can increase their businesses' efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and competitiveness, according to MBITA President Tony Livoti.
Crafted as part of the CCOF's Certified Organic Product Export Strategies (COPES) program, the "webinars" are each 30 minutes long and "will be provided at the convenience of a desktop using new collaboration eLearning technologies integrated with some interesting animation," said Tony Livoti, president of MBITA. "Webinar" subjects include export readiness; market analysis and trade leads; foreign country organic certification procedures; and on-line banking and export documentation.
"California's organic food industry is growing 20% each year and has for the last 12 years," said Brian Leahy, CCOF executive director.
"With the organic market growing world-wide, and California having the most successful and experienced organic producers in this movement, we feel this is a perfect time to offer small and mid-size enterprises the resources to grow and export to overseas markets," said COPES Program Manager, Jeanne Ikemoto.
The COPES program also includes extensive marketing assistance to companies in California to initiate and increase export activities for organic products, as well as key trade show appearances in Europe and Asia, foreign and reverse trade missions and seminars.
More information on the new program is available at http://www.copes-ca.org. To register for the COPES "webinar" program, go to http://www.copes-ca.org/webinars.php.
