ISRAELI FIRM TO ACQUIRE interWAVE COMMUNICATIONS

CARLSBAD - 07/30/04 - Alvarion Ltd. of Tel Aviv, Israel has said it will acquire interWave Communications International under the terms of a definitive agreement which calls for the Israeli company to acquire the California-based communications company for $5.75 per share.

The deal is an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $56 million.

Alvarion develops wireless broadband solutions to carriers, ISPs and private network operators.
 
The company has some 2 million units deployed in more than 130 countries and works with OEM providers and over 200 local partners to support its global customer base.
 
Alvarion's North America headquarters is located in Carlsbad, California and it maintains sales offices in the US, Europe, Asia, and South America.
 
Mountain View-based interWAVE develops and manufactures compact mobile GSM and CDMA network equipment and services, primarily aimed at low density markets in developing regions, as well as specialty vertical applications.
 
The firm provides economical and distributed cellular networks that scale from a few thousand to 100,000 subscribers, enabling operators to minimize capital expenditures while accelerating revenue generation. Its solutions are deployed in over 50 countries by more than 100 operators, mainly local and regional cellular operators.
 
InterWAVE's primary activities such as research and development, operations, sales and marketing take place in the US with engineering facilities in China and Ireland and additional sales and marketing facilities in several other countries.

MEXICO LIFTS CALIFORNIA LETTUCE BAN

BRUSSELS, Belgium – 09/20/06 – Internet search engine Google has been ordered to cease reproducing articles from French-language publications in the news sections of its Belgian website; the court order threatens the company with a fine of $1.3 million daily if it does not comply.


NEW OAKLAND INTERMODAL FACILITY PLANNED

OAKLAND – 09/11/06 – The 425-acre former Oakland Army Base will be converted into the Port of Oakland’s newest intermodal rail yard under the terms of an agreement reached between the port and several local and state government agencies; the planned OHIT – or Outer Harbor Intermodal Terminal – is expected to significantly reduce container transfer times, increase throughput, and reduce truck traffic in and around the port when completed within the next several years.


INTEL MAY LAYOFF THOUSANDS

SANTA CLARA – 09/04/06 – Chipmaker Intel is reportedly planning to announce a massive layoff within weeks that could eliminate as many as 10,000 jobs or one-tenth of the company’s total global workforce; the move was spurred by several financially disappointing quarters and the results of an internal corporate analysis conducted in April.
