IKEA PLANNING NEW NORTHERN CALIFORNIA STORE

WEST SACRAMENTO - 08/16/04 - Swedish retailer IKEA is mulling plans for a new store in the Central Valley community of West Sacramento.

The new store would be located just off the interstate I-80 and would be the company's third in the region - stores in Emeryville and East Palo Alto opened in April 2000 and August 2003, respectively.

IKEA, the world's largest housewares retailer, recently received approval in Dublin for a store that could open there as early as Fall 2006 along the I-580 highway.

Pending city permits, construction of the new proposed IKEA store could start this fall with an anticipated opening date in about a year.

The 20-acre site in West Sacramento would include a 265,000 square foot IKEA store at-grade with 1,150 parking spaces accessible from the Reed Avenue exit off I-80.

Located in the Riverpoint retail center - which was re-zoned for retail use last fall - IKEA West Sacramento will feature four model homes, 50 room settings, a supervised children's play area, as well as a 250-seat restaurant serving Swedish culinary specialties such as its signature meatballs with lingonberries and salmon platters.

Other "family-friendly features" will include a 'Children's IKEA' area in the showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking, and play areas throughout the store.

The new store is expected to create more than 300 jobs.

IKEA currently has more than 200 stores in 32 countries, including 20 in the US, where the company is planning to open at least five new stores a year over the next several years.
