DANISH MILITARY CONTRACTS WITH SAVI

SUNNYVALE - 12/03/04 - Denmark's military will utilize Savi Technology's cargo-tracking software to facilitate the tracking and management of inbound and outbound shipments at key logistics checkpoints, first within Denmark and eventually with the country's military forces deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Northern California-based company's RFID tracking system is already being used to coordinate NATO's Afghanistan supply chain, and has also been employed by the UK's Ministry of Defence and the US Department of Defense.

According to the Sunnyvale-headquartered company, the contract with the Danish government calls for Savi to provide fixed and mobile RFID readers; active RFID tags; Savi's licensed Site Manager middleware, which will aggregate the data generated by the readers, and filter it and apply localized business rules and processes.

In addition, Savi will utilize its licensed SmartChain supply network operating system software platform, which will link the data from the Site Manager middleware to the back-end IT operations within the Danish Ministry of Defense.

The first phase of the deployment calls for the initial installation of software and equipment in January at the Danish Army's logistics depots in Hjorring and Broedeskov and at the Danish International Logistics Center (DANILOG) at Vordingborg.

The system will become operational a few weeks later, the company said.

Starting as soon as a month or so after the system is operational in Denmark, it said, similar systems could be installed at strategic supply locations in Afghanistan and Iraq, where the Danish military ships consignments of parts, ammo, food, medicine, and other military supplies by both chartered commercial and military ocean and air transportation.

The total value of the new contract was not disclosed.
