
FOX OFFERS SPORTS TV PACKAGE IN AFRICA
LOS ANGELES - 01/04/05 - Fox Sports Network has expanded into Africa, with paid satellite service Trend TV launching the 24-hour global sports channel for the first time in Nigeria and Ghana.
The move makes Fox Sports part of Trend TV's basic programming tier in both West African countries with availability to all of the service's current and future subscribers.
Fox Sports, as aired in both new markets, will feature four regular season US Major League Baseball (MLB) games per week, 22 regular season US National Football League (NFL) games, and two Scottish soccer games per week. The programming lineup will also include the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl Championship game, major league soccer, US Southeast Conference and Pacific Coast Conference college basketball, the Champions World Tour, the National Hockey League (NHL), both the American and European PGA tours, ATP tennis, professional boxing, auto racing, extreme sports, track and field, and a wide variety of niche sports.
Fox Sports Africa is affiliated with Fox Sports International, an international sports programming and production entity housed within the Fox Cable Networks Group, one of the major operating units within the Fox Entertainment Group and News Corporation.

Korean Mega-Ship Makes Maiden Call at Port of Long Beach

LONG BEACH – 07/28/05 – The 8,000-TEU Hanjin Boston, one of the largest containerships in the world, called at the Port of Long Beach earlier this week on a maiden voyage that will take her to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea before returning to the US West Coast; the 984-foot long ship is the first of five new mega-ships that Korea-based Hanjin Shipping will put into service on its main transpacific route by the end of the year.

Korea’s Kia Breaks Ground at New SoCal Facility

IRVINE – 07/27/05 – Kia, Korea’s largest automaker, will invest more than $70 million in building its new US headquarters campus and a 65,000 square-foot design studio in the Orange County city of Irvine, south of Los Angeles; 400 employees from various business units, including sales, marketing, consumer affairs, technical service, product planning and administration will staff the new administrative center, which is slated for completion in December 2006.

Indian Software Firm In Majority Stake Deal

ALAMEDA – 07/25/05 – Informed Decisions Inc., a developer of collection software for colleges and universities, has signed a Letter of Intent clearing the way for the sale of a majority stake to CSWL Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of California Software Ltd. of Chennai, India; according to press reports, the planned buy would be the fourth in the US in the last 12 months for the Indian company.

NorCal Ex-Grocery Clerk In Line for British Peerage

YUBA CITY – 07/21/05 – A retired grocery clerk from Northern California has found out that he is next in line to be named the 11th Earl of Essex and a member of Britain’s House of Lords; a largely unimpressed Bill Capell found out about the curious development when an early morning telephone call from a London-based newspaper reporter gave him the news.
