PACER INTL. NAMED TO FORBES ''BEST'' LIST

CONCORD - 01/10/05 - Logistics services provider Pacer International Inc. has been named for the first time to the Forbes Magazine "Platinum 400" list. 

In its January 2005 issue, Forbes said it screened 26 industries for companies with at least $1 billion in revenues and high rankings for corporate practices as well as long- and short-term sales and earnings growth and stock market performance.

The top 400 companies made the 2005 cut - which is also known as the "Best Big Companies in America" list

The non-asset based third-party logistics company, which went public in 2002, was named to Fortune Magazine's list of the "Most Admired Companies in America" in 2004.

Pacer International's offers a number of services through its various subsidiaries and divisions including wholesale stack train, cartage, retail intermodal marketing, truck brokerage, and trucking services, as well as warehousing and distribution, international freight forwarding, and supply-chain management. 

The company is headquartered in Concord, California, while its principal business units - Pacer Stacktrain and Pacer Global Logistics - are headquartered in Concord, California, and in Dublin, Ohio, respectively.

Oakland to Test Extended Gates at Giant Box Terminal

OAKLAND – 09/07/05 – The Port of Oakland has kicked-off a program to test the effectiveness of extended gate hours at the 150-acre Oakland International Container Terminal; the new program aims at addressing the concerns of Northern California and Central Valley agricultural exporters who have expressed concerns about congestion at the port during the normal 8 am to 5 pm shift.


PierPASS Program Garners Support, Survey Says

LONG BEACH – 09/02/05 – The two-month old OffPeak terminal gate program at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach has gotten a nod of approval from the truckers serving the ports’ busiest container facilities, according to a new survey conducted by program administrator PierPASS; the program was created to establish night and Saturday shifts at the terminals to relieve traffic congestion on the roads and highways in and around the ports.


Sony to Offer Cell-Phone Comics in Japan

CULVER CITY – 08/30/05 – Sony Pictures Entertainment is positioning itself to dominate the Japanese cell phone ''manga'' market with the announcement that it plans to triple the number of animated comics titles it offers the country’s so-called ''manga maniacs;'' aficionados of the animated action cartoons spent an estimated $906 million on comics in 2004, according to Japan's Nomura Research Institute.


Study: California Loses Out on Runaway Films

LOS ANGELES – 08/26/05 – Almost six out of every ten ''Hollywood'' productions are shot outside of California, a trend costing the state millions in lost tax revenues every year, according to a new study compiled by the Los Angeles Economic Development Corp.; the report comes as lawmakers in Sacramento are working to craft legislation to offer tax breaks to encourage film producers to continue shooting films, TV shows, and commercials in the state.


FedEx Goes Solar in Oakland

OAKLAND – 08/24/05 – Expedited air carrier FedEx has installed California’s largest solar-powered energy system at its hub facility at Oakland International Airport; the new system – built by the PowerLight Corp. in nearby Berkeley – will produce the equivalent of the amount of electrical power used by more than 900 homes during the daytime and fuel a full 80% of the facility's energy needs.


UP to Acquire ''Green Goat'' Locomotives

OMAHA, Nebraska – 08/22/05 – The Union Pacific Railroad will pay more than $8 million to acquire 10 Canadian-built ''Green Goat'' locomotives for duty as switchers at its Southern California rail terminals; the low-emission, hybrid locomotives are powered by large banks of storage batteries that are automatically recharged by small, low-emission diesel engine.
