CAFTA Delegation Visits Silicon Valley

SAN JOSE – 06/23/05 – A delegation of small business owners, entrepreneurs, and educators from Central America is visiting Silicon Valley this week to create links between their region and the high-tech community of Northern California and cultivate support for the proposed US-Central America Free Trade Agreement; the visit is being hosted by The Enterprise Network of the Silicon Valley and the US Department of Commerce, in cooperation with several regional business groups.

Some Cargo Delays at SoCal Ports Called ''Inevitable''

LONG BEACH – 05/21/05 – Peak season cargo delays at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are unavoidable, say panelists at the recent Peak Season Forecast Conference in Long Beach; but, they say, congestion at both mega-ports won’t nearly turn into the massive bottleneck created last fall when a lack of equipment and trained workers caused inbound ships to be diverted to other West Coast ports and manufacturers and retailers across the country to re-forge their supply chains.

Global Calendar Publisher to Shutter California Plant

SAN MATEO – 06/18/05 – BrownTrout Publishers, one of the largest niche-market calendar and book publishers in the world, is closing down its Vacaville, California, printing and distribution facility next month because it says the high cost of doing business in the California is keeping the company from maintaining its edge in an increasingly competitive international marketplace; the work done at the $4.5 million, 149,000 square-foot facility will reportedly be moved to more cost-effective suppliers in Asia.

Skyrocket To Market ''Red, White and Blue'' Tequila

TEMECULA – 06/16/05 – Southern California-based Skyrocket Distillers is going nose-to-nose with Mexico’s generations-old tequila industry with the introduction of its new Ultrapremium 100-Percent Blue Agave Spirit; the company’s original plan to market the new drink as ''Temequila'' was turned down by the US Patent Office because the name was too similar to ''tequila,'' which is owned by the Mexican government.

LA Firm Gets New French Energy Turbine Order

LOS ANGELES – 06/13/05 – The Capstone Turbine Corp.’s office in Italy has signed a follow-on order for its C30 bio-gas micro-turbine products from a major energy systems distributor in France that will utilize the equipment to create renewable energy from the gases produced at landfills; the deal comes on the heels of an order the Southern California-based company signed for natural-gas-fueled 60-kilowatt micro-turbines from its distributors in Russia and Italy.
