TAMBAKIS TO HEAD USCS PARTNERSHIP EFFORTS
NEWPORT BEACH - 10/28/05 - Department of Commerce veteran Paul Tambakis has been named Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Western US for the US Commercial Service (USCS).
Tambakis replaces Michael Liikala, who announced his retirement from the USCS several months ago. Among Tambakis' responsibilities will be the continued development of the California Trade Initiative, which was crafted as a trade promotion and facilitation program to assist California-based companies in penetrating potential overseas markets following the defunding of the California Technology, trade & Commerce Agency by the State Legislature two years ago.
For the past two years, Tambakis (above) has served as the Director of the Commercial Service Hawaii Export Assistance Center where he worked closely with the State of Hawaii and other trade partners to organize several high-level trade missions to China, promote the DOC's Platinum Key Program export promotion program, and develop a Market Development Cooperator Program Grant to help Hawaii companies pursue tourism infrastructure development projects and training opportunities in China.
Prior to his assignment in Honolulu, Tambakis served in the USCS as the Network Director for Southern California and as Director of the Orange County Export Assistance Center where he earned the Most Outstanding Commercial Service Director Award and the Director General's Innovation Award.
Prior to his California assignments, he worked on unfair trade cases with Import Administration within the International Trade Administration in Washington, DC earning two Bronze Medals from the Secretary of Commerce for outstanding delivery of export services to the business community.
A graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Tambakis holds an MBA in International Business from George Washington University and is a graduate of the Executive Development Institute for Tourism at the University of Hawaii's School of Travel Industry Management.
He will assume his new position in December and be based in the USCS office in Newport Beach.
