SF HANDLES UNIQUE BREAKBULK SHIPMENT

SAN FRANCISCO - 02/13/06 - The heavy-lift ship MV Rickmers Hamburg recently called at the port of San Francisco with a unique cargo - a shipment of windmill blades manufactured in Europe for GE Energy, one of the world's leading wind turbine technology companies.

The blades are destined for enXco, Inc.'s project to partially re-power an existing wind operation near Rio Vista, California, where ninety smaller wind turbines are slated to be replaced by six 1.5 MW turbines.

When completed, the project - scheduled for completion late next month - will generate 9 megawatts (MW) of wind energy, enough to provide approximately 2,700 homes with electricity annually.

enXco Inc. was founded in 1987 and develops, constructs, operates and manages wind energy projects throughout the US.

Four years ago, the North Palm Springs-headquartered company became an affiliate of EdF Energies Nouvelles, a member of the EdF (Electricite' de France) Group, an EU-based developer of renewable energy projects.

The GE Energy shipment is the third of what the port feels will be many such break-bulk shipments in the future as California has committed to generate a full 20% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2010.

The shipment was off-loaded at the port's Pier 80 complex, which is managed by Marine Terminals Corporation (MTC).

In addition to Rickmers Linie - operator of the MV Rickmers Hamburg - the terminal also serves as the Northern California port of call for several other break-bulk services including Star Shipping, Saga Forest Carriers, SK Shipping, Pan Ocean Bulk, Hyundai, as well as various project-cargo vessels under charter.

The Port of San Francisco has seen dramatic growth in break bulk cargo volumes at Pier 80 over the past two years with this past January seeing a record 27,000-plus metric tons of imported break bulk cargo moving across its docks.
