ACTEL OPENS IRISH R&D; CENTER

DUBLIN, Ireland - 03/24/06 - The Actel Corp. has established a Processor Research & Development Center in Dublin, Ireland.

Working in tandem with the Silicon Valley office of IDA Ireland and the country's Ministry for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Mountain View-headquartered Actel said the new center will serve as the company's European Union technology hub and "define and develop new processor and processor-related technologies in support of the company's Programmable System Chip (PSC) strategy."

Dublin was chosen as the site of the new R&D center because of the "ready availability of designers with in-depth intellectual property (IP) and microprocessor (MPU) experience," said Actel President and CEO John East.

The decision to locate the center in the Irish capital "is an ideal fit with the initiatives of the government and IDA Ireland to attract strategic R&D investments from international companies like Actel who are leaders in their business," said Ireland's Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin.

"This center is a welcome addition to the integrated circuit industry in Ireland as the quality of the R&D and the level of technical innovation is cutting edge," he added.

Actel Corporation is the leader in single-chip FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) computer solutions.

FPGA is a type of logic chip that can be programmed and are especially popular for prototyping integrated circuit designs.

IDA (Industrial Development Agency) Ireland is the Irish government agency responsible for securing new investment from overseas in manufacturing and internationally traded services sectors.
