LONG BEACH – 08/24/06 – The Sea Launch Company has successfully delivered the Koreasat 5 communications satellite to geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO).

According to the aerospace company, early data indicate the spacecraft is accurately positioned and in excellent condition with ll systems performing nominally throughout the flight.

The Zenit-3SL rocket “vehicle” lifted off the morning of August 22 from the company’s Odyssey Launch Platform, positioned near the Equator in the Central Pacific.
 
A ground station at Fucino, Italy, reportedly acquired the first signal from the satellite shortly after spacecraft separation.

Built by Alcatel Alenia Space for the KT Corporation and Korea's Agency for Defense Development, the hybrid multi-band satellite will form part of South Korea's new high-capacity Spacecom System over the Asia-Pacific.

This is Sea Launch's fourth successful mission of 2006 – two additional missions are planned for this year.

In June, Sea Launch – which began launch operations in March 1999 – successfully delivered PanAmSat's Loral 1300-series spacecraft, Galaxy 16 into orbit. The satellite's transponders support a variety of broadcast customers in the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, and Canada.

DISNEY TO LAUNCH TV CHANNEL IN RUSSIA

BURBANK � 12/31/08 � The Walt Disney Company has said it will team-up with Media-One Holdings Ltd. to launch a Disney-branded television channel in Russia in 2009; Disney will have a 49% stake in the venture in exchange for a cash investment and content acquisition, according to a recent piece in the Los Angeles Business Journal.
