LAMBORGHINI VROOMS INTO CALIFORNIA
SANTA MONICA 05/05/08 Automobili Lamborghini America LLC, the newly-formed US subsidiary of Italian auto icon Lamborghini, has said it will base its US operations in the Southern California city of Santa Monica.
The decision was largely based on the fact that California generates about one-third of Lamborghini's total North American sales, according to auto industry media sources, who say the move is noteworthy because Lamborghini has created a separate sales arm for its North American operations, the first such unit outside of Italy.
Pietro Frigerio, who has served as Automobili Lamborghini's North America area manager for the past several years, will become the chief operating officer of the newly formed company.
California has been a mecca for many automakers, from Honda to Hyundai over the past two decades with the conventional wisdom in the US auto industry opining that trends tend to start on the West Coast and work their way through the rest of the nation.
