Executives at the Walt Disney Co. have kicked off a two-month recruitment drive for 3,000 future employees at its Hong Kong theme park set to open in September. The recruitment aims at filling positions for hotel and park operations, catering, costuming, entertainment, sales, cleaning and security services, Hong Kong Disneyland's Group. Greg Wann, the park's vice president of human resources, said 95% of the new jobs will be full-time positions and the vast majority of them will have a starting monthly salary of 9,000 Hong Kong dollars - or about US$1,154. Most of the positions will be filled by locals, except for a few acting roles, the Burbank-based company said. The US Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) has pledged a $3 million loan to convert an historic 19th century Ottoman building in Istanbul, Turkey, to a small hotel, in support of U.S. private-sector investment in that country. Sega of America and Sega Europe have integrated their management teams, tapping a new chief executive to lead the Japan-based video game maker's push to grow its share of the Western market. According to press reports, the recent naming of Naoya Tsurumi, who was Sega Europe's chief operating officer since 2002, is part of the Sega's strategy to gain Western market share by jointly developing and acquiring content in North America and Europe, according to the company. Sega said its management would collaborate better under the new structure on product development and acquisitions across the regions for the next generation of gaming consoles. Sony and Microsoft, which respectively make the No. 1 and No. 2 console developers, are preparing anticipated overhauls of their video game platforms, sources have said.
