TRADE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD GOES TO BECHTEL'S CHAO
SAN FRANCISCO - Dr. Daniel K. H. Chao of Bechtel was recently honored by the California-Asia Business Council with the presentation of its first New Silk Road Award for his "outstanding contributions" in promoting and developing trade links between California and Asia.
The Award was presented to Chao by Rick Chong (left) of Sycamore Ventures, president of the California-Asia Business Council. They were joined by Lyz Ferguson of the Bay Area Family of Funds (second from left), who served as event chairperson; Bill Lee, San Francisco city administrator Bill Lee; and Jeremy Potash, Cal-Asia's executive director.
Chao was recently appointed to oversee Bechtel's activities throughout greater China from the company's offices in Shanghai. He currently serves as Chairman of the Oakland-based trade promotion group, which assists California-based companies in expanding their businesses in the Far East.
Chao, who serves as both senior vice president of the San Francisco-headquartered Bechtel Group Inc. and managing director of Bechtel Enterprises, was honored for his "high standards of integrity in global business; for helping make Bechtel an engineering and construction leader in Asia; creating exports and jobs for other American companies, as well as for Asian vendors; and for helping other US firms achieve their goals through his volunteer work for the California-Asia Business Council and other organizations." The unique "New Silk Road" Award, named for the fabled trade route linking the ancient Middle Kingdom of China with the West, consists of an elaborately embroidered Chinese silk apron.
The presentation to Chao was made at a recent dinner at San Francisco's new Asian Art Museum.
