CISCO NETWORK ACADEMY OPENS RUSSIAN BRANCH

SAN JOSE - 02/16/05 - Russia's Nizhny Novgorod University (UNN) is the site of Cisco Systems' newest Cisco Network Academy.

The new center will open next month on the campus of the 26,000-student university late next month, according to the California-based computer systems giant.

The Cisco Networking Academy program is a comprehensive e-learning program that provides students with the Internet technology skills essential in a global economy.

The Networking Academy delivers web-based content, online assessment, student performance tracking, hands-on labs, instructor training and support, and preparation for industry standard certifications.

The program is targeted towards local students and local IT specialists, who are interested to learn about design, construction and support of data transmission networks. The graduates of the program would qualify in CCNA standards.

Launched in October 1997 with 64 educational institutions in seven states - Arizona, California, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, and North Carolina - the Network Academy has expanded to more than 145 countries and all 50 US states.

Over 260,000 students have enrolled at more than 9800 Academies located in high schools, technical schools, colleges, universities, and community-based organizations.

Cisco Systems trains the Cisco Academy Training Centers (CATCs), the CATCs train Regional Academies and the Regional Academies train the Local Academy Instructors who then educate students.

Officially known as N.I. Lobachevski State University of Nizhni Novgorod, UNN is located about 250 miles east of Moscow and is considered one of Russia's leading science and research institutions.

The school was founded in 1916 and cooperates on scientific and technical projects with the Russian Academy of Sciences and other schools around the country.
