NEW SF-IRELAND AIR SERVICE INAUGURATED
SAN FRANCISCO – 11/08/07 – Aer Lingus has inaugurated a new four-day per week service linking San Francisco International Airport and Dublin.
The air carrier was granted authority to start flying to three US cities ahead of several other European Union (EU) airlines, according to the terms of newly liberalized agreements between the US and the EU.
San Francisco was Aer Lingus' first choice for the new service, which will offer flights every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
“In many ways the parallels between Dublin and San Francisco are quite marked,” said Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion.
San Francisco and the Bay Area, he said, “is the IT capital of North America, possibly the world, and there is no doubt, in European terms, Ireland and Dublin in particular is the capital of the IT world in Europe.”
Plans call for a seven-days-a-week service beginning in March 2008.
