PEOPLE - May 16 to May 31, 2003

SAN JOSE - Business Objects, a provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, has named Diego Gabriel Gomez to the position of vice president, Latin America. In this position, Gomez will focus on expanding and strengthening the company's presence in Latin America. Gomez reports to Jon Temple, senior vice president and general manager, Americas, and will be based in the company's Miami, Florida office. Most recently, Gomez was the vice president and general manager for northern Latin America and the Caribbean at PeopleSoft Inc. Prior to that he held other positions within PeopleSoft, including vice president of international operations, and director of operations, sales and marketing for southern Latin America. Gomez also worked for IBM Argentina and was responsible for building the new Application Business Unit from the ground up within IBM Argentina.
 
SAN DIEGO - The  Weston Group has promoted Michele McPhail to account executive. McPhail will work with Jasvina Gill, vice president of client services, and manage the accounts of Western Pacific Housing's San Diego division, Brookfield Homes, Klang & Associates, LGS Architects and two master plans for Stratham Properties. She will also oversee pro bono assignments that include the Sales & Marketing Council of Los Angeles and Ventura counties and the SMC of Southern California. McPhail joined the Los Angeles agency in 2001.

OAKLAND - Mayor Jerry Brown has nominated Kenneth Katzoff and Antonio Batarse, Jr., to the Oakland Port Commission, replacing Phil Tagami and Peter Uribe. Katzoff, a partner in the Emeryville-based law firm Katzoff & Riggs, is currently chair of the City Planning Commission. He was also named last month as Brown's alternate on the Oakland Base Reuse Authority board. Batarse is president of the Oakland-based Lloyd A. Wise auto dealerships.The nominations will officially be made at the May 20 Oakland City Council meeting. Traditionally, port commissioners have been sworn in at council meetings on the night their names are placed in nomination, and assume office the very next day.

HEALDSBURG - Simi Winery has announced winemaker Nick Goldschmidt's resignation. He has accepted a position with Allied Domecq and will also focus on his own brands. He will remain with Simi as a consultant. Goldschmidt joined Simi as associate winemaker in 1990 and was named head winemaker in 1996. A replacement for his position has not been named.
