NEWTON NAMED TO NEW DOWN UNDER POST
SAN DIEGO - Down Under Answers, LLC, a wholesaler of leisure travel to the South Pacific, has appointed Kathryn Newton as regional sales director. Based in San Diego, Newton will be responsible for the Bellevue, Washington-based company's travel agent sales, education, travel shows and educational seminars, throughout Southern California and the Southwest.
Previously, Newton served as market development coordinator at Tourism New Zealand (TNZ) in Santa Monica, California, where she managed market development for retail relations and consumer/media events throughout North America, and directed the company's Kiwi Specialist Program, a training program for North American agents specializing in New Zealand travel.
STERLING VINEYARDS PROMOTES DIRECTOR OF WINEMAKING
NAPA - Rob Hunter, director of winemaking at Sterling Vineyards, has been promoted to vice president of winemaking. In his new position, Hunter is responsible for the winemaking vision of Sterling Vineyards and Sterling Vintner's Collection and supervises a team of winemakers for each brand.
Hunter joined Sterling Vineyards in 1997 as winemaker and became director of winemaking in 1998. Previously, Hunter held positions at Groth Vineyards, Robert Keenan Winery, Lyeth Winery and Markham Vineyards.

NEW PRESIDENT, CEO NAMED AT APPTERA SAN BRUNO - Apptera Inc. has announced the appointment of Lorraine Hariton as the company's new president and CEO. Hariton will be responsible for Apptera's daily operations, long term business strategy, key customer accounts, as well as the company's nearly 25 employees. She will also serve as a member of the company's Board of Directors. Hariton replaces Rick DeGolia, who served as Apptera's president and CEO since March 2002. Prior to joining Apptera, Hariton served as Beatnik Inc.'s CEO for more than three years.
During her time at Beatnik, she raised more than $40 million and repositioned the company for profitability from a web-based audio content startup to the leading audio technology provider for wireless devices.
MENLO WORLDWIDE EXPANDS VP RESPONSIBILITIES
SINGAPORE - Menlo Worldwide reports that Simon Yam, vice president for North Asia, will also act as the logistics company's Vice President for South Asia.
Menlo Worldwide's South Asia Area comprises Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam as well as Korea.
Remaining in Hong Kong, Yam reports to Peter Quantrill, Menlo's executive vice president for international operations at the company's headquarters in Redwood City, California.
A 17-year veteran of the freight transportation industry, Yam has served as the company's Vice President for North Asia since June 2000. His previous area of responsibility for North Asia included Hong Kong, China, Macau, Taiwan, Guam and Saipan.
He joined the company in 1986 as sector finance manager for North Asia in charge of strategic financial planning for the region.
Before joining Menlo Worldwide, Yam was a financial controller at TNT Express and chief accountant for Duty Free Shoppers' Australia division. He started his career as senior auditor for Ernst & Young in 1980.
Yam holds a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Western Australia.
