ENTERTAINMENT / RETAIL / TRAVEL - November 15 to November 30, 2003

THOMSEN INKS EU ESPN DEAL

NEVADA CITY - Expanding its role as a supplier of high-definition (HD) and multi-format broadcast products, Thomson Inc. has signed an agreement to provide its Grass Valley-brand broadcast equipment to ESPN, the world's leading television sports programming network.

The deal is valued at more than $18 million.

ESPN will use Grass Valley(TM) brand broadcast equipment from Thomson - including switchers, cameras, routing systems, control systems, and modular products - at its new new High Definition production center in Bristol, Conn.

The new 120,000 square-foot ESPN Digital Center will supply programming for the network's all-HD ESPN HD channel, which is now available to direct broadcast satellite and cable TV systems throughout the US.

In March, ESPN announced its plans to launch ESPN HD and feature a variety of 100 live, HD telecasts in its first year. Once the center is operational, ESPN reportedly will add a variety of studio shows in 2004, providing an additional 3,700 hours of HD programming.
