TECHNOLOGY / TELECOMMUNICATIONS / BIOTECHNOLOGY - November 15 to November 30, 2003

CALIFORNIA SOFTWARE EXPANDS EU SALES OPERATIONS

SAN CLEMENTE - California Software Corp. has unveiled plans to expand its European Sales Operation by opening an office in Milan, Italy.

Company President and CEO Carol Conway, said, "The opening of this latest sales office is consistent with our plan to provide regional sales support in our strongest global markets. California Software has enjoyed sales in the Italian market since the mid-1980s. Given our sales growth in 2003 and the strong acceptance of our new products, this expansion makes perfect sense."

In addition to its headquarters in San Clemente and its new office in Milan, California Software maintains Chicago, Atlanta, Richmond, Singapore, Buenos Aires, London, Belfast, and Paris, and develops and markets its software products under the BABY, Unibol, MLPS and Infinite brand names.

The company enjoys over 100,000 installations in 56 countries and is in use by such customers as IBM, Unisys, Caterpillar, Volvo, DHL Worldwide and BMW Motors.

SONY NAMES CALIFORNIA MICRO A "GREEN PARTNER"

MILPITAS - California Micro Devices has received Sony Corporation's Green Partner certification.

The certification "recognizes that California Micro Devices has successfully established a worldwide environmental management system meeting the standards of the Sony Green Partner Program.," according to a spokesman for the Milpitas-based tech company.

California Micro Devices is one of the first companies to receive this certification from Sony. Earlier this year, Sony announced it would limit its procurement of products and materials to only those suppliers that have qualified as Green Partners.

Sony established its Green Partner Standards in July 2001 with the goal of encouraging suppliers to introduce Green Partner environmental management systems.

In March, 2002, Sony established a set of "Management regulations for environment-related substances to be controlled which are included in parts and materials." Environment-related substances to be immediately banned or reduced were identified, and further clarified in the Sony "Green Partner Environmental Quality Approval Program."

In order to receive certification, companies are required to provide analytical data on products and supplier products/materials to demonstrate they do not contain hazardous substances such as cadmium, mercury and lead; set up internal procedures across manufacturing, quality, product, purchasing and sales divisions to ensure materials used are environmentally sound; and provide an action plan should a problem occur; and undergo audits within worldwide facilities.
