MANUFACTURING / ENGINEERING / CONSTRUCTION - January 15 to January 31, 2004

PARSONS AWARDED ARMY ENGINEER CONTRACT

PASADENA - Engineering giant Parsons has been awarded a contract from the US Army Corps of Engineers for the US Central Command's (CENTCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR) throughout twenty-five countries in Central Asia, the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.

The contract has a monetary ceiling set at $500 million for the first year with four one-year options. The option years have a yearly ceiling of $250 million.

The task-order contract "provides a quick-response contracting capability in the areas of new construction, restoration, renovation and design-build projects in today's rapidly changing environment," according to a company press release.

Parsons is the prime contractor on the contract, which includes DynCorp International, a subsidiary of Computer Sciences Corporation, based in Fort Worth, Texas, and Michael Baker Corporation, based in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.

The contract will include a variety of facilities projects supporting CENTCOM forces, other US government agencies in the area and/or friendly military forces.

Parsons and its subcontractors will provide a full range of planning, engineering, design, procurement and logistics, in conjunction with construction, repair, renovation, restoration, maintenance and operation of facilities.

The work will be provided in response to direction from the US Army Corps of Engineers' Transatlantic Programs Center.

Parsons currently provides program management and logistics support to the US Army Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville, Alabama, for the Captured Enemy Ammunition(CEA)  program at various sites in Iraq.

The company is teamed with USAID in the restoration of infrastructure, medical, education and government facilities in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo, and is also  working on the $1.8 billion Iraq Infrastructure II program with Bechtel that was awarded by USAID earlier this month.
