NEW TELECOM SERVICE LAUNCED IN IRAQ
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqna, the primary mobile phone operator in Baghdad and central Iraq, has launched a pre-paid service cellphone service to make a broad range of telecommunications services more accessible to the country's low-income population. Iraqna launched its network last month in Baghdad, but restricted it to full subscriptions that require customers to pay a deposit of $650, far beyond the means of most in the country. Orascom telecom of Egypt has a majority stake in Iraqna, one of three companies licensed to operate in Iraq. Asia Cell is covering northern Iraq and Atheer Telecom the south.
