IADA RAISES FREIGHT RATES KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan - The 34-member shipping association Intra-Asia Discussion Agreement (IADA) has increased its sea freight charges for shippers by $50 for a 20-foot container and $100 for a 40-feet container with a further similar rise in rates planned in early September. C.L. Gerry Liu, who is temporarily responsible for IADA's interests in Vietnam, said the new rates would apply to shippers exporting to China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Philippines. The current IADA charges are $80 for a 20-foot container and $160 for a 40-foot container. The group is raising charges in response to higher prices of fuel and the hire of vessel charter, explained Liu, who is also chief representative of Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp in Vietnam.
