TRANSPORTATION / LOGISTICS - June 15 to June 30, 2004

US DISAPPOINTED AT EU AVIATION DECISION

WASHINGTON, DC - US Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta has expressed disappointment over the European Union Council of Minister's failure to endorse an "Open Skies" air services agreement.

"We are missing a great opportunity to open access to markets for the benefit of consumers, carriers, workers and airports on both sides of the Atlantic," said Mineta at a press conference following the recent announcement.

According to Mineta, the US "remains committed to opening up transatlantic aviation markets" but that it would now "review how best to achieve the objective" in light of the council's "unfortunate decision."

The agreement would have established 'open skies' between the US and 25 European nations, with proponents saying an agreement would create more competition and offer travelers and shippers more transatlantic choices at a lower cost.

"It would also have provided Europe the opportunity to solidify a single European market for air services," said Mineta, adding that we must now review how best to achieve the objective."

ENSENDA UNVEILS NEW DISTIRBUTION SERVICE

SAN FRANCISCO - Ensenda Inc. has announced a new Pool Distribution service, that national retailers and suppliers to significantly reduce the cost of customer deliveries to high volume markets by up to 60%.

The new service also speeds up delivery time by eliminating the need to maintain their own underutilized distribution centers and local delivery fleets and reduce the number of vendors they need to manage nationwide, the company said.

Through Ensenda's Pool Distribution service, companies can leverage Ensenda to transport bulk goods from regional distribution centers to the company's Cross-Docking facilities.

Once delivered to a cross-docking facility, the goods are split into multiple smaller vehicles from the its Local Delivery Network (LDN) of 10,000-plus delivery personnel, and delivered to the recipients the next day.

Pool Distribution has quickly become Ensenda's fastest growing service, representing nearly 25% of the company's business.

Current Ensenda Pool Distribution customers include IKEA, Moore Wallace, Home Depot, Best Buy, LaserNetworks, and Crate & Barrel.
