US, PANAMA CONCLUDE SECOND ROUND OF TRADE TALKS
LOS ANGELES - The US and Panama have concluded the second round of negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement in Los Angeles with the next round of negotiations will begin in Panama the week of July 12, according to the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR).
The USTR office indicated that trade officials from both countries were "pleased with their progress in crafting the text of the agreement, and were also pleased with discussions in the individual negotiating groups."
PLASTIC BAGS FROM ASIA DUMPED ON US MARKET
WASHINGTON, DC - Plastic shopping bags from China, Thailand and Malaysia have been dumped on the US market, according to the US Department of Commerce.
In a final determination, the department said the dumping margins ranged up to 77.33% of China, 101.74% for Malaysia, and 122.88% for Thailand.
Imposition of antidumping duties requires final affirmative determinations both from the Department of Commerce that dumping occurred and from the US International Trade Commission (USITC) that the imports injured or threatened US industry.
The USITC is expected to make its final determination in July.
Until then US Customs agents will collect a cash deposit or bond equal to the dumping margin on any such imports; it would return the money in the event of a negative determination, Commerce said.
US imports of plastic shopping bags in 2003 amounted to $183.8 million from China, $6.9 million from Malaysia, and $43.3 million from Thailand.
