MSC BEGINS NEW CHINA - CALIFORNIA SERVICE
GENEVA, Switzerland - The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has begun a new "Orient Express Service" linking China with the Port of Long Beach. The weekly express service will employ five 2,500-TEU capacity ships on the Shanghai/Chiwan/Hong Kong/Yantian/Long Beach/Shanghai rotation.
The new Orient Express Service will complement MSC's existing transpacific Golden Gate Pendulum Service and enable the company "to provide quicker transits from the key export markets of Southern China to the West Coast of the USA," the company said.
BNSF LAUNCHES TRANS-LOAD CAPABILITY
FORT WORTH, Texas - The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) has launched BNSF TransBid, a new online marketplace that connects shippers and trans-loaders by providing easier access to bids for truck and warehousing needs.
On the Web at http://www.bnsftransload.com or through BNSF iPower, the "online marketplace" allows shippers to post shipment opportunities as well as any value-added services desired, such as tarping or barcoding.
Trans-load companies will be alerted by e-mail when opportunities arise in their areas; or they can log onto the website to see all the available opportunities.
Once trans-loaders submit their opportunities, shippers can view all the bids of interested trans-loaders.
The BNSF operates about 32,500 route miles covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces and is one of the two primary intermodal carriers linking California with points throughout the US.
