IRELAND LOOKS TO WIND POWER
DUBLIN, Ireland - Ireland has said it wants wind power to provide a full13% of its energy needs by 2010 through a new plan that could see wind farms constructed in "environmentally sensitive" areas.
Ireland has said it wants to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and is a long-time opponent of nuclear power.
The country has no nuclear power stations but 25 years ago the government-owned Electricity Supply Board had planned to build four reactors with a combined output of 3,000 megawatts on Carnsore.
The plan, however, was scrapped after strong public opposition.
NATIONAL SEMI TO SELL-OFF IMAGING UNIT
SANTA CLARA - National Semiconductor Corp. has reportedly agreed to sell its imaging business, which makes chips used in small cameras and cell phones, to camera giant Eastman Kodak Co.
The move was spurred by the company's desire to focus on its main business of making analog chips.
Terms of the deal with Rochester, New York-based Kodak were not disclosed. Kodak said the deal will help it target camera phones and other high-volume applications.
According to industry analysts, the company is getting intellectual property and equipment from the business, which makes metal oxide image-sensor chips.
Under the agreement, expected to close in the next few weeks, Kodak will open an office in Sunnyvale, Calif., staffed by about 50 former National Semiconductor workers who will work with Kodak's team in Rochester. The deal doesn't include Foveon Inc., which holds the patent for the Foveon X3 direct image sensor used in some high-end digital cameras. Santa Clara-based National Semiconductor holds an unspecified stake in the startup chip maker. TARANTELLA APPOINTS UK DISTRIBUTION PARTNER

Tarantella Inc. develops purpose-built application access and deployment software to nearly 12,000 customers' sites worldwide, while its new UK partner serves as a value-added distributor with headquarters in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and offices in Rugby and York.
