PORT OF LONG BEACH NABS SECURITY GRANT
LONG BEACH - The Department of Homeland Security's Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP) has announced a $1.4 million port security grant to the Port of Long Beach.
The port has said it will use the funding to improve its surveillance equipment. The Port Security Grant Program provides resources for projects to improve dockside and perimeter security that is vital to securing our critical national seaports. Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge recently announced $49 million in the fourth round of port security grants.
Over 1,100 applications for the program were received this year with the agency selecting 154 ports across the nation for funding.
Fourteen ports in the state of California received funding, totaling $5.9 million.
PACER STACKTRAIN RECEIVES SERVICE AWARD
CONCORD - Pacer Stacktrain, one of the largest providers of double-stack rail service in North America, has been named the best intermodal service provider by readers of Logistics Management magazine, the monthly transportation and logistics trade journal. Logistics Management, published by New York-based Reed Business Information, conducts the annual survey of transportation and logistics users, called "Quest for Quality". Pacer Stacktrain is the principal wholesale arm of Pacer International Inc., a non-asset based North American third-party logistics and freight transportation provider.
The company is based in Concord, California and provides wholesale double-stack rail services and cartage services. MENLO LOGISTICS PARTNERS WITH WORLD AIRWAYS
REDWOOD CITY - Georgia-based World Airways has expanded its contract with Menlo Worldwide to provide DC-10-30F service between Dayton, Ohio and Los Angeles through the end of this year, and MD-11F service between Dayton and Hong Kong in October and November.
The contract value for the additional service is estimated at $3 million.
World's current MD-11F route between Dayton and Brussels five times a week for Menlo will be changed to DC-10-30F service with the same schedule.
World also provides ad hoc flying to support Menlo's Dayton operations.
