Advanced automotive technology company ZAP has signed a trademark licensing agreement with Zibo Enterprises Co. Ltd. of The People's Republic of China. Under the terms of the agreement, ZAP of Santa Clara grants Zibo Enterprises the use of its trademarks in exchange for royalties on the global distribution of ZAP Portable Energy and future battery and energy-generation products co-developed by the two companies. Under the agreement, ZAP grants licensing for the trademarks ZAP, ZAP!,and Zapworld.com. In October, ZAP announced that it had invested in Zibo Enterprises to assist in expanding manufacturing operations for ZAP Portable Energy as well as future products utilizing ZAP and Zibo's advanced battery technologies. ZAP has signed a distribution agreement for ZAP Portable Energy and says these battery developments are the culmination of years working to develop larger format battery technologies for automotive applications…
BEI Technologies Inc. has completed a technology license agreement and equity investment in NCTEngineering (NCTE) GmbH, a German corporation. According to the Bay Area company, the license is for a proprietary non-contact torque measurement technology with potential applications in the automotive, heavy equipment and industrial markets. BEI's license is exclusive for targeted markets in America and Japan, and includes certain non-exclusive rights for the rest of the world. NCTE products are currently used in Formula 1 racing cars, several industrial applications and have been approved as the working standard for torque measurement by the German measurement standards agency. BEI's total investment of approximately $2.0 million represents a 6% equity stake in NCTE. BEI will also pay future royalties based upon its use of the licensed technology; and…
The NEC Group of Japan has committed to the development of a new company in Shanghai to expand the manufacture of LCD panels and increase sales in China. The plan is the first of its kind for a Japanese company. According to a spokesman for NEC, the new operation - NEC Lighting (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. - was created to meet the growing demand for the growing market demand for LCD, notebook computers, and LCD TVs markets, consolidate its supply chain management, and reposition its assembly operations from South Korea and Taiwan to China.
