Paul Otellini, a 30-year Intel Corp. veteran who oversaw the launch of the Pentium processor in the 1990s, will replace chief executive Craig Barrett when he steps aside to become chairman next May. Otellini has been considered Barrett's likely successor since he was appointed president and chief operating officer in 2002 - the same positions Barrett held prior to his promotion in 1998, when then-CEO Andy Grove stepped aside. Grove, who has served as chairman since 1998, will leave the board to become a senior adviser to the board and management. Avanex Corporation has named Syrus Madavi as Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective November 22, 2004. Madavi succeeds Walter Alessandrini, who is retiring from an active role with Avanex. Madavi has more than 20 years' experience in senior executive positions within electronics and optical communications industries. Hana Biosciences Inc., a biopharmaceutical company headquartered in South San Francisco, California, has named Russell Skibsted as its new Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Skibsted most recently served as chief financial officer and portfolio management partner of Asset Management Company, one of Silicon Valley's oldest venture capital firms. Previously, he was vice president of GE Capital Services' Structured Finance Group, and director of corporate development for Pinkerton's, Inc. Skibsted earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BA in economics from Claremont McKenna College.
