L.A. FORWARDER LOSES TSA CERTIFICATION

LOS ANGELES - 03/26/06 - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has revoked the air forwarder certification of a Los Angeles-based logistics company because of its failure to meet government-mandated security standards.

The action against J.H. World Express Inc. was made "after repeated security infractions, but the company will be able to re-apply for certification in 90 days, according to a statement released by the TSA.

J.H. World Express Inc. is a so-called "indirect" air forwarder specializing in handling cargo shipments aboard passenger aircraft.

During the past several months, the TSA conducted numerous compliance inspections at the company's cargo facility near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and found repeat, multiple violations, it said.

The agency, the statement added, "worked with the company to correct these violations but has not been satisfied with J.H. World's response."

Passenger air carriers serving LAX have been notified not to accept cargo from the company until it is re-certified by the TSA.

Any passenger air carrier that accepts cargo from a non-TSA approved company can face a civil violation up to $25,000 per violation.

"As freight forwarders these agents are trusted to maintain robust security, and comply with known shipper and other program requirements. When that responsibility is not met we will take action," said TSA Administrator Kip Hawley.

The last "indirect" forwarder to have its certification revoked by the TSA, which acts as a part of the US Department of Homeland Security, was Florida-based US-European Trading Inc in November 2002.
