CAL FIRMS IN SINGAPORE DEAL

WASHINGTON, DC – 06/12/07 – Four California-based equipment manufacturers are benefiting from a new $610 million loan guarantee recently approved by the Export-Import Bank of the US (EXIM).

The guarantee will finance US-made exports of wafer fabrication equipment to expand a “Fab 7” wafer production facility operated by Singapore-headquartered Chartered Semiconductor Mfg. Ltd.

Chartered will reportedly use the financing to buy the equipment from Applied Materials Inc. of Santa Clara; San Jose-based Novellus Systems Inc.; LAM Research Corp. in Fremont; and KLA-Tencor Corp. of Milpitas, as well as several other US-based manufacturers.

JPMorgan Chase Bank of New York is the guaranteed lender on the transaction.

The equipment will be used in phase two of the new facility. When fully completed, the Fab 7 plant in Singapore will be able to fabricate up to 45,000 300-millimeter non- DRAM wafers per month.

The wafers will use processing technology from 90 nanometers to 45 nanometers over the life of the project.

The new facility brings to five the number of state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities the company op0erates in Singapore. Combined, they have a capacity of 2.35 million 8-inch equivalent wafers annually.

The EXIM loan guarantee is the second for Chartered; the first was a 653 million term-loan facility signed in 2004 which was used for its capacity expansion.

The financing is a corporate transaction with Chartered being the primary source of repayment.

In addition to its operations in Singapore, Chartered has offices and research facilities in in the UK, France, Germany, Taiwan, China, Japan, and the US.

In fiscal year 2006, the EXIM authorized over $12.1 billion in transactions supporting an estimated $16.1 billion in US exports.
