
LA CHAMBER JOINS EXIM FINANCE PROGRAM
WASHINGTON, DC – 07/10/07 – Los Angeles-based small and medium-sized businesses looking to compete in global markets will have easier access to financing through a new partnership agreement between the and the US Export-Import Bank (EXIM).
The EXIM’s new City-State Partners Program is a nationwide marketing initiative that brings state and local government offices and private-sector organizations into partnerships with EXIM to expand export opportunities.
As an EXIM City/State Partner, the LAACOC will be able to assist local businesses learn about and apply for a range of EXIM financing products, including short-term export-credit insurance to mitigate the risk of foreign buyer nonpayment, loan guarantees to increase export-related working capital, and medium-term financing for foreign buyers.
Over the past five years, EXIM has helped more than 700 California companies in 227 communities export $8 billion in goods and services, including 27 companies in Los Angeles proper.
In fiscal year 2006, the bank authorized more than $12.1 billion, including nearly $3.2 billion for small business authorizations, to support an estimated $16.1 billion of US exports.
With the addition of the LAACOC, EXIM has 46 City/State Partners in 36 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

BURBANK – 08/07/07 – The Walt Disney Company has finalized its acquisition of Club Penguin, the popular Canadian children’s website, which boasts more than 700,000 pre-teen subscribers and saw 4.7 million unique visitors in June, an increase of 159% over a year earlier.

CAPSTONE SECURES UK, IRELAND AGREEMENT

CHATSWORTH – 06/28/07 – Microturbine energy systems developer Capstone Turbine Corp. has signed a new distribution agreement with UK-based Cogenco to distribute its systems in the United Kingdom and Ireland; earlier this year, Capstone announced a new $1.6 million follow-on order from its distributor in Russia for its C-65 microturbine systems.

CERADYNE OPENS NEW CHINA FACILITY

COSTA MESA – 06/21/07 – Southern California-based ceramics developer Ceradyne Inc. has opened the doors at a new 98,000-square foot production facility in Tianjin, China; the new plant will produce high purity ceramic crucibles for the forming of large poly-silicon ingots for use in the manufacturing of photovoltaic silicon solar cells.
